Alyssa Yam graduated with Bachelor of Music (Hons) from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YSTCM), National University of Singapore, studied under Rachel Walker and Carolyn Hollier, both members of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO). Alyssa has also participated in masterclasses conducted by Alexandre Gattet (Orchestra de Paris), Kalev Kuljus (NDR Sinfonieorchester), Gordon Hunt, Marco Ambrosini, Thomas Intermuhle, and Spyros Kontos as well as Veit Stolzenberger from Deutsche Radio Philharmonic. She previously studied with Mr. Lee Chun Howe and Mr Simon Emes in Malaysia.
 
Alyssa was the first prize for Malaysia ABRSM Wind Music Prize in 2017. She had also participated in several festivals such as Oboe course in Greece in 2016, Asian Youth Orchestra in 2018, Melaka Classics 2019 as well as Taiwan Music Academic Festival (TMAF) in 2019.
 
Apart from being a passionate music maker, Alyssa also enjoys travelling and learning about different cultures. As part of YST’s outreach endeavours, she had travelled to Bali and Myanmar to perform and learn about the musical cultures of ethnic communities in the region.
